Websites made for people, not just screens.
Your website is often the first proper interaction someone has with your business. Before they call you, visit you, book something or buy anything, there's a pretty good chance they'll have a nose around your website first. So it needs to do more than simply exist.
At SUMWEN Studio, I design and build modern, thoughtful websites that look great, work properly and make it ridiculously easy for people to understand what you do. No bloated agency process. No unnecessarily complicated tech talk. Just really good websites, built around real businesses.
Designed around you
I don't believe every business needs the same five-page website with a different logo dropped into the corner. Before anything gets designed, we'll look at your business. What do you offer? Who are we trying to reach? What do you want someone to do when they land on the site? Book? Buy? Get in touch? Visit somewhere? Understand what on earth you actually do?
Once we've got that figured out, I'll build the website around it. Because the best websites aren't just nice to look at. They have a job to do.
Design & development together
There's little point creating a beautiful website that becomes a nightmare when somebody actually tries to use it. I consider design and development together from the beginning.
That means thinking about how pages flow, how things behave, what happens on mobile, where buttons lead and how quickly someone can find what they're looking for. Depending on your project, I can help with:
- Bespoke website design
- Website development
- Mobile-first responsive design
- Business websites
- Portfolio websites
- Landing pages
- Ecommerce websites
- Booking and enquiry systems
- Contact forms
- Galleries and portfolios
- Blogs and news sections
- Membership areas
- Payment integrations
- Newsletter integration
- Social media integration
- Interactive website features
- AI-powered features
- Analytics
- SEO foundations
- Cookie and privacy considerations
- Website refreshes and redesigns
- Ongoing updates and support
Mobile isn't an afterthought
There's a good chance someone is looking at your website while holding their phone in one hand and doing something completely unrelated with the other. So mobile matters. A lot.
I design websites to feel natural across phones, tablets, laptops and larger screens rather than building a desktop site and hoping everything somehow behaves itself when it gets smaller. Buttons should be easy to press. Text should be comfortable to read. Menus should make sense. Nothing should require microscopic fingers. The basics matter.
Websites with personality
Professional doesn't have to mean boring. Some businesses need something minimal and beautifully understated. Others need colour, movement, photography and plenty of character. The important thing is that the website feels right for your business.
I'll work with your existing branding or, if we're creating your wider identity together, design the website as part of that whole visual world. Fonts, colours, photography, graphics, tone of voice and little interactions can all work together to create something that feels properly considered. Not just another template with your name on it.
Your words matter too
A beautiful website full of awkward copy still feels awkward. If writing isn't really your thing, I can help shape the content too.
We can turn rough notes, existing material and conversations about your business into clear, natural website copy that sounds like an actual person wrote it. Because nobody needs another homepage telling them they're a “leading provider of innovative solutions committed to delivering excellence.” We can do better than that.
Ecommerce & online shops
If you're selling online, the journey from “I like that” to “I've bought that” should be as painless as possible. I can design online shops for products, artwork, merchandise and other ecommerce businesses, considering the entire experience from browsing products through to checkout.
Depending on the project, that can include product collections, payments, promotional areas, shipping information and the integrations needed to keep everything running. And most importantly, it should still feel like your brand rather than suddenly turning into a completely different website the moment someone clicks Shop.
Bookings, forms & useful stuff
Sometimes the most important part of a website isn't the homepage. It's what the website actually lets someone do. I can integrate features that make your site genuinely useful, whether that's requesting a quote, booking an appointment, joining a mailing list, paying for something, registering interest or accessing members-only content.
We'll concentrate on what your visitors actually need rather than adding features just because we can.
SEO from the foundations up
There's not much point having a lovely website if nobody can find it. While SEO can become a much bigger ongoing project in its own right, I build websites with solid foundations in place.
That means considering things like page structure, headings, mobile usability, page titles, metadata, image optimisation, performance and content organisation. No promises that you'll magically be number one on Google by Friday. Just sensible foundations that give your website somewhere good to start.
Accessibility matters
The web should work for as many people as possible. Accessibility is considered throughout the design process, from readable typography and sensible contrast to navigation, structure and how interactive elements behave.
It isn't about making a website less creative. It's about making thoughtful design decisions so more people can comfortably use what we've built. Which seems pretty reasonable.
Privacy & security considered too
Web design isn't only about what visitors can see. We also need to think about what happens behind the scenes. Depending on the website, I'll consider areas such as forms, cookies, analytics, third-party integrations, account access and the information your site collects.
If your project handles particularly sensitive information or requires specialist regulatory, legal or cybersecurity work, I'll be clear about where additional professional advice is appropriate. Good digital design includes knowing when something needs an expert.
Already have a website?
You don't always need to start again. If your current site works but feels tired, confusing or no longer reflects where your business is today, I can look at improving what you've already got.
Sometimes that means a complete redesign. Sometimes it's restructuring a few pages, improving mobile usability, refreshing the visuals and giving everything a good tidy-up. We'll work out what actually needs changing before throwing the whole thing into the sea.
One person from hello to launch.
SUMWEN Studio is an independent studio. When you get in touch, you're talking to me, the person who'll actually be designing your website. There isn't an account manager relaying your feedback to a project manager who's passing it to a designer who eventually sends it to a developer.
We can just... talk. You tell me what you're trying to achieve, I'll bring ideas and experience to the table, and we'll build something we're both proud to put online.
Ready for a better corner of the internet?
You don't need a perfectly prepared brief. Maybe you know exactly what you want. Maybe you've got an existing website that needs rescuing. Maybe you've bought the domain and that's about as far as you've got. All good. Tell me about your business, what you've got so far and where you'd like to take it. We'll build from there.
