Questions people usually ask.
How much does a website cost?
It depends on how big it is and how much needs building from scratch, but most small business sites I do land somewhere between £1,500 and £6,000. Bigger builds and online shops go beyond that. You always get a fixed written quote from me before anything starts, so there are no surprises halfway through.
How long does a project take?
A focused one page site can be a couple of weeks. A full business site is usually four to eight weeks. Honestly, the biggest factor is not me, it is how quickly content and feedback come back from your side.
What happens after I send the enquiry form?
It lands straight in my inbox and I read it myself, there is no team or ticket system in between. I normally reply within a working day, usually with a couple of questions and a suggestion for a quick call.
Who will I actually be working with?
Me, Chris. I run SUMWEN Studio on my own and I do the design and build work myself. If a job needs a specialist, say photography or a particular bit of development, I bring someone in and tell you who they are.
Do you only work with businesses near you?
Not at all. I'm based in Dorset and I love working locally, but most of what I do happens over calls and shared links. I work with people and businesses right across the UK and further afield.
Can you redesign my existing website?
Yes, and it is a big chunk of what I do. Sometimes it needs a full rebuild, sometimes it just needs a careful tidy of what is already there. I will tell you honestly which one you actually need, even when it is the cheaper answer.
Do you offer hosting?
I can set hosting up and look after it for you, or hand everything over so you own it outright. Either is fine by me. Nothing I build is locked to me, and you keep the accounts in your name.
Can you manage my social media?
Yes. That might be templates you run yourself, artwork for a campaign, or ongoing content and planning where I keep it ticking over for you.
Can you design just a logo?
Of course. I would usually nudge you to spend a little extra thought on type and colour at the same time, purely so the logo has somewhere sensible to live once it is out in the world.
Can you help my business use AI safely?
Yes. I run practical sessions for teams, help you pick tools that are actually worth the money and help draft a sensible internal AI policy. It is hands on education from a designer who uses this stuff daily, not legal or cybersecurity advice.
Do you build online shops?
Yes, usually with Stripe handling payments. In my experience a small, well run shop that you can update easily beats a sprawling one you end up avoiding.
Do you work with startups?
Often, and I enjoy it. Early stage work suits a one person studio, quick decisions, no layers to go through, and scope that can flex as the idea takes shape.
Can you provide ongoing design support?
Yes. Plenty of clients keep a small monthly arrangement with me for updates, campaigns and the bits and pieces that come up. No long tie in, you can stop whenever it stops being useful.
How do payments work?
Quotes are fixed for the scope described and valid for thirty days. Most projects run on a deposit to book the work in and the balance on completion. Anything outside the agreed scope gets quoted separately before I start it.
