Digital stuff. Done a little more safely.

Running a business online means dealing with more than websites, emails and social media. There are passwords to protect, customer details to look after, cookies asking for consent, AI tools appearing everywhere and enough talk about GDPR to make almost anyone quietly close the tab.

Digital safety doesn't need to feel intimidating. I help small businesses and individuals better understand their digital world, identify obvious risks and put sensible practices in place, explained in normal language rather than a wall of technical jargon.

A safer digital setup

Small businesses aren't immune from digital risks simply because they're small. In fact, when you're running most things yourself, it's surprisingly easy for security and privacy to become something you'll “sort out eventually.”

I can help you take a practical look at how you're working online and highlight areas that could be improved. That might include:

  • Password and account security
  • Multi-factor authentication
  • Website security basics
  • Email and phishing awareness
  • Access and permissions
  • Data handling practices
  • Website privacy considerations
  • Cookie and consent setup
  • Safer use of cloud services
  • AI privacy awareness
  • Staff digital safety guidance
  • General GDPR awareness
  • Backup considerations
  • Third-party tools and integrations

GDPR without the headache

GDPR sounds complicated because, well... parts of it are. But the basic principle is pretty reasonable: if people trust your business with their information, you should understand what you're collecting, why you're collecting it and what happens to it afterwards.

I can help you understand the practical digital side of data protection and look at how personal information moves through your website and everyday tools. That could include contact forms, newsletter sign-ups, analytics, booking systems, customer accounts, cookies and third-party integrations. Where specialist legal advice is required, I'll tell you. I'd much rather be clear about that than pretend a privacy-policy template magically makes every business compliant.

Privacy-conscious websites

Privacy can be considered from the beginning of a website project rather than bolted on five minutes before launch. When I'm designing a site, we can think about what information genuinely needs to be collected, which third-party services are being connected and what visitors should be told about them.

That can include areas such as cookie consent, analytics, contact forms, external embeds and privacy information. The aim is simple: collect what you need. Protect it properly. Don't make things unnecessarily complicated.

AI & your data

AI has added a whole new layer to digital privacy. It's incredibly easy to copy some information into an AI tool without stopping to think about what that information actually contains. Customer details. Internal documents. Confidential conversations. Business information. Suddenly, “Can you summarise this?” becomes a slightly bigger question.

I can help businesses and teams understand some of the privacy considerations around AI and develop more sensible habits around what information they share with digital tools. AI can be enormously useful. We just need to keep our heads switched on while using it.

Passwords, accounts & access

A surprising amount of digital security comes down to fairly ordinary things being done properly. Strong unique passwords. Multi-factor authentication. Knowing who has access to what. Removing old accounts. Not sharing the company Instagram password in a group chat with twelve people.

None of this sounds particularly futuristic. That's exactly the point. I can help you review some of these everyday practices and make them easier to manage safely.

Helping your team understand the risks

Security works much better when people understand why they're doing something. I can provide approachable guidance around everyday digital safety, privacy and responsible technology use. Rather than trying to turn everyone into cybersecurity experts, the focus is on recognising common risks and developing better habits.

Things like suspicious emails, unsafe links, account security, personal data and responsible AI use become much easier to deal with once people know what they're looking for.

No scare tactics.

Digital security is sometimes marketed by making everything sound terrifying. That's not particularly helpful. The aim here isn't to convince you that someone in a dark hoodie is currently trying to hack your coffee shop. It's to understand the realistic risks around your business and make sensible improvements. Calmly. Properly. One thing at a time.

Knowing where my role ends

Digital safety is a big field, and being responsible also means being clear about what I don't pretend to be. SUMWEN Studio isn't a law firm, data protection authority or specialist penetration-testing cybersecurity company.

What I can provide is practical digital guidance, safer design choices, awareness, education and help implementing sensible everyday practices. If something requires specialist legal, regulatory or advanced cybersecurity expertise, I'll recommend getting the appropriate professional involved. No bluffing.

Privacy shouldn't be an afterthought.

Whether you're building a new website, introducing AI into your business or simply wondering whether your current digital setup could be safer, we can take a look. You don't need to understand all the terminology before getting in touch. Tell me what you're using and what you're concerned about. We'll start there.
