Overview

Harbour & Co. is a thirty-cover restaurant on the Dorset coast with a menu that changes with the catch. The old site was a template with a booking button bolted on, and the kitchen could not update it themselves.

Challenge

Menus changed daily, opening hours changed seasonally, and nobody in the building had time to fight a page builder. The site also needed to work on a phone with one bar of signal on a coastal road.

Approach

We cut the site to four pages and made the menu the centre of it. Bookings, story and contact all sit around it. Content is structured so a single person can update it in a few minutes from their phone.

Design

Large type, generous margins and photography left to breathe. Colour is limited to charcoal, chalk and a single washed sea tone, so the food is the only saturated thing on the page.

Outcome

The site loads in well under a second on mobile, menu updates take minutes rather than emails, and bookings now start from the site rather than a third-party listing.

“Chris has completely changed how we present ourselves online. He understands what we’re trying to achieve, comes back with ideas we wouldn’t have thought of ourselves and somehow makes everything feel simple. From our website and student platform to branding and content, he’s become someone we can genuinely rely on.”
